The AEMC Model PEL 52 is an ultra-compact, handheld, single-phase and dual-phase (split-phase) power and energy logger engineered specifically for residential, commercial, and light-industrial energy auditing. Designed to provide electrical contractors, facility managers, and energy efficiency auditors with a streamlined diagnostic tool, the PEL 52 monitors single-phase 2-wire, single-phase 3-wire, and dual-phase installations without the physical footprint or operational complexity of full three-phase network analyzers. It features an integrated high-contrast backlit LCD screen that displays real-time voltage, current, active power, reactive power, apparent power, and power factor metrics directly at the panel. Equipped with two independent voltage measurement channels and two current inputs, the PEL 52 continuously samples AC and DC electrical parameters to calculate True RMS values up to 600 V CAT IV and 1000 V CAT III. The instrument supports comprehensive energy profiling across all four quadrants, logging active (kWh), reactive (kvarh), and apparent (kVAh) energy consumed and generated. Configurable logging intervals span from 1 minute up to 1 hour, allowing multi-week or multi-month load profiling campaigns stored directly onto an internal SD/SDHC flash card or internal memory for straightforward extraction. Constructed for high field versatility, the PEL 52 features built-in Wi-Fi and USB connectivity, enabling direct wireless communication with laptops, tablets, and smartphones via standard web browsers or AEMC’s DataView software suite and PEL Control Panel. Its ergonomic casing is equipped with integrated rear mounting magnets that secure the logger to steel panel interiors, allowing distribution cabinet doors to remain closed and latched during live logging to satisfy NFPA 70E safety protocols. The logger can be powered directly from the measured voltage circuit using an optional phase-power adapter or run via an external USB-C power source and internal rechargeable NiMH backup batteries.
